John Locke of teenagers, natural rights

Uncategorized — Maier on March 17, 2008 at 3:38 pm

yes, teenagehood. The most stressful time of life. Between choosing high school, and trying to obtain freedom from seemingly pointless oppression from our parents. Two ultimate forces which clash in a disagreement ranging from everything from boys to the mall to school to weekly spending money. As a lifelong teenage advocate, I feel strongly towards giving teens their rights. These specific rights include rights to life, to go out with boys and go to the mall, liberty, to balance all high school classes henceforth provided that grades stay good and work gets done, and property, at the minimum, our room, the small section of land on planet earth which we, teens, hold dear and make a mess of. Please respect the natural rights of our fellow teens and we will respect yours.

Pi Day Rules!!!

Aaron's Antics, Fun times, News, Random, lexicon and vocabulary, links — Aaron on March 14, 2008 at 8:13 pm

Dear Readers,

Today I, and people everywhere who like the beauty of mathematics, celebrate the official ‘pi day’. It is March 14th, every year. Why, you may ask; because March 14 is 3/14.

So in honor of every-one’s favorite irrational number, this post is henceforth dedicated in every respect to π (pi).

Firstly, I’ll explain what pi is, and how we use it. Pi is an irrational number, that is roughly equal to 22/7 (twenty-two sevenths). We use pi to calculate a large assortment of things. We use it to find the circumference of a circle. We do this by doing 2πr (said: Two pi r)This means we multiply the radius times 2 and pi. To find the area of a circle do: πr² (said: pi r squared).

Secondly, you should know the history of pi. The symbol was first used by William Jones, in the year of 1706.

Thirdly, without further ado I present to you the first 1100 digits of pi:

Fort Rochambeau USA!

People, Rochambeau's spot — Joe on March 9, 2008 at 3:53 pm

Did you know that during the Revolutionary War General Rochambeau had his camp here near the library? That’s why they call the street further down the hill that runs between Hope and North Main Streets Camp Street! This is a big deal because without the French help the American army might not have beaten the British. So it’s only appropriate to have a fort here in the library armed by Art Starz soldiers!

Best of luck,
